In February 2010, Sony announced that Webb would be directing a reboot of the Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi declined to direct a fourth installment. Vanderbilt was hired to write a new draft of James Vanderbilt’s earlier script while Gabriel Casseus was hired to revise one from David Lindsay-Abaire. Rebooting the franchise was considered because Raimi couldn’t make another Spider-Man film within Sony’s wanted release date due to his work on Oz the Great and Powerful. In June 2010,Garfield was cast as Peter Parker / Spider-Man after impressing Webb with several auditions while Tiffany Espensen was cast as Cindy Moon / Silk; both actors had previously read for the part in Raimi’s trilogy. Filming began in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City in April 2011 where principal photography concluded in late June 2011.

Spider-Man 2 is widely considered to be one of the best superhero movies ever made. But it almost didn’t happen because Tobey Maguire, who played Peter Parker/Spider-Man, injured his back while filming Seabiscuit and had to wear a back brace during production.

The final battle scene between Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man had to be rewritten because Maguire couldn’t do some of the stunts that were originally planned. The scene where Doctor Octopus throws a car at Spider-Man? That was supposed to be Maguire doing a stunt but he couldn’t do it because of his injury so they had to use a computer generated image instead.
In 2007, Sony released 3Spider-Man3 and it is considered by many to be one of the worst superhero movies ever made. There are a lot of behind the scenes stories about why the movie turned out so bad but one of them is that director Sam Raimi originally wanted to include Venom in the movie but Sony said no because they wanted to save Venom for his own movie (which ended up being terrible). Raimi also wanted to kill off Mary Jane Watson in this movie but again, Sony said no because they wanted her alive for future movies (which never happened).

Tobey Maguire wasn’t happy with how his character was written in 3Spider-Man3 and he almost quit the franchise altogether but he agreed to do one moremovieif changes were made (which they weren’t). As a result, he phoned it in for 3Spider-man3and you can tell he’s not really into it. He even refused to promote the movie after it came out because he was so disappointed with it.
